What is the Green Key Program?

The “Green Key” program is an international award that promotes Sustainable Tourism in Portugal through the recognition of tourist establishments, that implement good environmental and social practices, that value environmental management in their establishments and that promote Environmental Education for Sustainability.

This initiative is the responsibility of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark, is coordinated in Portugal by the European Blue Flag Association (ABAE) and has the support of several national public and private entities.

The objectives of the Green Key program are:

Raise awareness for the adoption of sustainable practices and behaviors between decision makers and participants (companies, authorities, customers, suppliers and local communities) through environmental education for sustainability.

Reduce the environmental impact of trade, services and restaurants.

Promote the reduction and efficiency in the consumption of natural resources.

Facilitate green marketing strategies and recognize environmental management initiatives.

Contribute to the implementation of 21 Local Agendas through the continuous improvement of the organ Environmental Policy


Environmental Policy of Vila Valverde Design & Country Hotel

Vila Valverde Design & Country Hotel develops an Environmental Policy by practicing efficient ecological management to minimize the environmental impacts that result from its activity. In this way, it makes a rational use of natural resources and the energy it has, reducing the effects of pollution to its surroundings as much as possible.

Following the current legislation, the Hotel Vila Valverde Design & Country:

- Periodically assess the environmental impacts it may cause, complying with any and all rules and regulations applicable to sustainable tourism;

- Maintains partnerships with external entities, whether public or private (government institutions, municipalities, associations, suppliers ...), in order to improve the environmental performance of its activities, products and services. To this end, it also involves customers and employees, with regular environmental awareness campaigns with its staff.
