Legacy & Culture
The History of Vila Valverde
Origin
Vila Valverde was born from the vision of the Tavares family: to create a boutique hotel where understated luxury, authenticity, and nature coexist in perfect harmony.
Margit and Luís Tavares settled in the Algarve in 1985. Two years later, Luís co-founded an incoming tourism agency specializing in the German-speaking market, which would become one of the leading agencies in the sector in Portugal.
After a long career in tourism, a new challenge arose: to create a hotel that reflected his experience and way of welcoming guests.
The project took shape when an old property was discovered in Praia da Luz — a 19th-century manor house situated on a five-hectare farm with orchards and olive groves. The restoration of the property was guided by respect for the original architecture and the surrounding landscape, values that continue to define the identity of Vila Valverde.
The hotel opened its doors in 2004 and, since then, has established itself as a benchmark for hospitality in the Algarve, welcoming guests from all over the world in an atmosphere of tranquility, elegance and authenticity.
Currently, the new generation of the family continues the project, preserving the legacy of the house while introducing a contemporary and sustainable vision.
Architecture
Vila Valverde occupies a carefully restored former 19th-century mansion, where historical architecture interacts with a contemporary design of clean lines.
The intervention prioritized the preservation of original elements, integrating modern solutions in a discreet and timeless way.
Set within a five-hectare property, the surroundings are marked by lemon trees, orange trees, olive trees, an organic vegetable garden and expansive gardens, creating a serene atmosphere just minutes from the coast.
Family
Family management remains one of the cornerstones of Vila Valverde.
Since its inception, the project has been developed with a long-term vision, based on personalized hospitality, attention to detail, and deep respect for the local area.
Today, the new generation ensures the continuity of this commitment, reconciling tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
Nature
The connection to nature is part of Vila Valverde's identity.
The entire property was designed to provide tranquility and promote a slower pace of life, where gardens, fruit trees, and green spaces invite relaxation.
Sustainability is present in different areas of the operation, through the use of renewable energies, the production of ingredients in the organic garden, and practices that seek to reduce environmental impact without compromising guest comfort.
Accommodation
The 15 rooms and suites offer an elegant and bright atmosphere, with minimalist décor, natural materials and views of the gardens or the Atlantic Ocean.
Each space was designed to provide comfort, privacy, and well-being, complemented by spacious balconies and Rituals amenities.
Gastronomy
Alecrim restaurant celebrates the flavors of the Algarve through contemporary cuisine inspired by regional tradition.
Most of the herbs, fruits, and vegetables used come from the property's garden, prioritizing fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients.
Well-being
The outdoor pool, gardens, and leisure areas invite absolute relaxation, offering a calm environment where nature and comfort meet.
